Summer Blog Party: DIY Favors

Summer Blog Party

Party favors are certainly not a necessity But I like to give my guests something tactile to take home to complete their party experience. I've composed my share of swag bags for craft shows in the past, which are basically just goodie bags full of party favors if you think about it.

The fun thing about favors is that you can choose items and packaging that incorporate your party's theme.

mustache pops

Mustache Pops
Homemade lollipops make cute and easy party favors. You can purchase candy melts online or from your local craft store. I got the mustache mold from Bake it Pretty. The mustache lollipops are awesome because because they double as photobooth props!

These were perfect for my Etsy Craft Party - very Etsy-like!

mustache pops in the making

Instructions: Carefully spoon in melted chocolate or candy - or use a plastic squeeze bottle. Be careful not to overfill. Add lollipop sticks and then a little bit of melted candy over the top of the stick. We don't want any of these falling off the sticks while being eaten!

Tap the mold gently on the counter to remove any air bubbles before the candy hardens. Refrigerate to harden.

Warning: Don't leave these in the sun or you'll end up with a melted mess!

Other fun favor ideas:

Custom Bubbles
Buy some bottles of bubbles (mini or regular size will work) and make your own labels on the computer. Print out the labels and attach with glue or spray adhesive.

Party Favor/ Swag Ideas

Custom Candy
I choose button candy for my Etsy Craft Party (buttons are crafty, right?). I separated the candy into individual food bags (these can also be purchase online or at a craft store). I designed and printed tags on my computer to staple on top of the bags.

Be creative - use candy and packaging that fits your party's theme.

Custom Goodie Bags
I used some simple and inexpensive muslin bags as favor bags. An easy way to decorate the bags would have been to use a rubber stamp and ink. You can even get a custom rubber stamp made.

Since I made these last minute and didn't have time to order a custom stamp, I used another method. I had some t-shirt transfer paper on hand so I designed a sheet of IndieSacramento labels and printed them on the transfer paper. I cut each of the labels out and ironed them onto the muslin bags. The result is a full color image and it looks pretty cute! Tip: If you are using this method, make sure to print a reversed image so that it looks right when you iron it on.

Other favor ideas:

* Inexpensive shopping bags can make cute favor bags. I purchased the favor bags for Jaymi's baby shower at Old Navy for only $1 each.

Party Table

* Mustache straws - or other themed straws are fun and inexpensive. Check out the tutorial on Etsy.

* Magnets or stickers - anything you can design and make inexpensively.

* 1" buttons - you can buy custom ones on Etsy or if you have a button maker, make your own.

* Give out chocolate boxes - little cardboard boxes filled with handmade truffles or cookies.

* Cake pops - because who doesn't love a cake pop? Visit Bakerella for a tutorial.

* Handmade items that are quick and inexpensive to make. For a luau, hair barrettes with plastic hibiscus flowers can be quite popular with the ladies. Hair barrettes, simple jewelry, marble magnets...the possibilities are endless!
